In 1992, just after graduating from high school, Amanda Bossard started her education in marine biology with Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage, Alaska. Bossard started her journey in the commercial seafood industry in 1999. At the time she was employed as a fisherman on Murat Aritan's 65-foot halibut vessel, later transformed into a fishing tender. Bossard who is married to Aritan and has joined their forces in order to claim their respective industries. Both are advocates of conservation as well as profiting from natural resources that are used in the seafood industry. Otolith is an independent wholesale distributor of seafood founded within Philadelphia in 2007 by a mother of two kids, Bella age 3 and Andre one year old. The name Otolith serves as a fond reminder of Bossard's intimate knowledge about fish biology and her husband's extensive connections in the seafood business. They are often separated for 5 months each time they pursue objectives in the areas of environmental and financial that reflect their commitment and autonomy wherever they are. Since July of 2016, Bossard as well as her daughters Isabella aged 12 and son Andre aged 10 returned to Southeast Alaska annually each summer to work as deckhands throughout the summer wild salmon harvest. The two-month period is when Bossard and her daughter Isabella use hooks & lines to hunt for the salmon they want to catch. Aritan will then sell their fish for processing locally.
